Jokowi Suggests to Reappoint Arcandra to Become EMR Minister

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) hinted that he would re-appoint Arcandra Tahar as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR/ESDM).

"There are already several names, including Mr. Arcandra Tahar. But we haven't decided yet. Immediately, as soon as possible. But until now - not yet, "said President Jokowi at the Merdeka Palace.

President Jokowi ensured that the ESDM ministers to be appointed were from professionals.

"I make sure from the professional community, not from the party," he said.

Arcandra was honorably dismissed, on August 15, after being involved in citizenship issues. At that time, Arcandra was known to hold a United States passport. The government decided that Arcandra was an Indonesian citizen (WNI). That was stated in the Decree of the Minister of Law and Human Rights on 1 September 2016.
