Pencapaian PT Pertamina yang membukukan laba bersih sepanjang Januari-Septemher 2016 sebesar US$ 2,3 miliar membuat BUMN energi itu sejajar dengan perusahaan migas papan atas global. Laba bersih yang naik 209% jika dibandingkan dengan periode yang sama di 2015 tersebut hahkan jauh di atas perolehan chevron yang justru merugi US$ 912 juta dan Total SA yang juga rugi US$ 382 juta. Guru Besar Fakultas Ekonomi Universitas Indonesia, Rhenald Kasali menyatakan Kinerja positif Pertamina memberikan pembelajaran yang baik, khususnya bagi BUMN lain, jika dikelola dengan balk bisa memberikan nilai tambah yang besar bagi negera.

Kinerja cemerlang diperlihatkan sektor hulu yang memangkas biaya, tapi mampu meningkatkan produksi 12,3 % mencapai 646 ribu barel setara minyak/per hari (boepd), terdiri atas 309 ribu barel per harl (bph) minyak dan 1.953 juta kaki kubik per hari (mmscfd). Pencapaian produksl listrik panas bumi mencapai 2.233 gigawatt hour (GWH).
Efisiensi biaya operasi hulu sebesar US$ 834 juta yang menjadi penyokong utarna bagi realisasi Breakthrough Project 2016 mencerminkan strategi fokus pada lapangan kerja yang memberikan dampak finansial besar.
