Berdasarkan Keputusan Menteri ESDM no 7935 K/10/MEM/2016 tanggal 9 Desember 2016 tentang Penugasan kepada PT Pertamina (Persero) dalam Pembangunan dan Pengoperasian Kilang. Minyak di kota Bontang, Provinsi Kalimantan Timur, maka PT Pertamina (Persero) kini sedang mencari partner strategis dan calon investor dalam ataupun luar negeri untuk bersamasama mengembangkan proyek Grass Root Refinery (GRR) Bontang ini dengan kapasitas 300 ribu barel per hari.
Oleh karena itu PT Pertamina (Persero) dengan ini mengundang para investor yang berminat serta memiliki kapabilitas yang cukup untuk mengikuti Project Expose GRR Bontang yang akan dilaksanakan pada tanggal 28 Februari 2017 tempat dan waktu akan disampaikan kemudian pada para peserta yang mendatarkan diri)
Dalam Project Expose GRR Bontang ini Pertamina akan menyampaikan rencana awal pengembangan proyek, profil proyek serta konsep awal dari struktur dan model bisnis yang akan di terapkan
