PT Pertamina EP predicts the age of the well which is currently managed by the company only for the next nine years. This means that if the company does not find new reserves, the company can no longer produce.

Pertamina EP's Managing Director, Nanang Abdul Manaf explained the company needs to carry out various strategies to be able to maintain production. Moreover, when there is an old well that is currently experiencing a natural decline in production it cannot be changed.
"It means that if we don't find new reserves, we will only have 9.7 years of production life. So, we really need to discuss exploration activities to maintain production," Nanang said in Commission VII of the Central House of Representatives.
Nanang explained that for the exploration activities the company made several efforts. As this year the company will drill 12 exploration wells. But it does not stop there, the company needs to make a discovery of reserves by conducting a seismic survey and also using technology around the well operating today.

Usia Sumur Tersisa 9 Tahun Saja
PT Pertamina EP memprediksi usia sumur yang saat ini dikelola perusahaan hanya sampai sembilan tahun ke depan. Artinya jika perusahaan tidak menemukan cadangan baru perusahaan tidak bisa lagi berproduksi.
Direktur Utama Pertamina EP, Nanang Abdul Manaf menjelaskan perusahaan perlu melakukan berbagai strategi untuk bisa menjaga produksi. Apalagi, disaat sumur tua yang ada saat ini penurunan alami produksi tidak bisa diubah.
"Artinya kalau kami tidak menemukan cadangan baru, maka umur produksinya tersisa 9,7 tahun saja. Maka, betul sekali kami perlu diskusi kegiatan eksplorasi untuk menjaga produksi," ujar Nanang di Komisi VII Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Pusat.
Nanang menjelaskan untuk kegiatan eksplorasi perusahaan melakukan beberapa upaya. Seperti pada tahun ini perusahaan akan mengebor 12 sumur eksplorasi.
Namun tidak hanya sampai di situ, perusahaan perlu melakukan penemuan cadangan dengan melakukan survei seismik dan juga menggunakan teknologi di sekitar sumur yang beroperasi saat ini.
